I Want to Walk Lightly

I dont want to leave my mark here
I don't want to scratch my name into the bark of this earth
to scar it
to make part of it mine
I want to explore it, to taste it, to smell it
to let my fingertips trail along it's bumps and edges
its flaws and its perfections
I want to walk without punishment,
dip my hand into it's wonder without getting wet
feel it's fire without getting burned
breathe in it's past without filling my lungs
gaze into it's future without blinding my eyes
yet these are impossible things
and walking without consequence is not an option
so I choose to walk lightly
and I shall get wet
and I shall be burned
my lung
